San Diego Wild Animal Park Activity, Dinner, and Dance

Saturday, 4:00 PM, September 5, 2009

Tour the park, then join us for dinner and dancing at the Hunte Nairobi Pavilion.

Tandem Kayaking

Monday, 8:30 AM, September 7, 2009

The kayaking activity leader is Elyse Wait, elysewait@hotmail.com, 760.504.4633.

Please plan to arrive at 2164 Avenida De La Playa at least 30 minutes before the start time of 9:00 AM in order to get ready.

There are restrooms and changing facilities onsite. Please allow plenty of time to park. The main street (Avenida de la Playa) has enforced time limits that do not provide enough time for your tour. The best parking is on the streets north and south of Avenida de la Playa or in the big lot by the lifeguard tower on Camino del Oro.

Our tour begins at our shop on Avenida de la Playa (directions below) where you can change and leave valuables. Once outfitted, we'll walk two blocks to the beach and begin our adventure with a brief dry-land discussion on kayaking technique and safety. We'll then launch our kayaks through small surf and explore the beautiful marine preserve. You will get wet. Anything with you will get wet, so please be sure to leave valuable electronics in your car or in our convenient storage space at our shop. Make SURE to give your car keys to your guide for safe keeping!

ITEMS TO BRING:

  • water bottle
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses and/or prescription glasses with a retention strap Please note: If you wear prescription glasses, it is VERY important to have a retention strap! Many glasses end up lost. (You can purchase one at our shop for about $6.)
  • hat
  • towel
  • change of clothes for afterwards
  • waterproof camera (we have reusable waterproof cameras available for purchase: $15)
  • cash to tip your guide if they did an exceptional job!

CLOTHING TO WEAR:

  • bathing suit
  • quick-drying shorts or shorty wetsuit (We have some wetsuits available for rent: $5)
  • thermal, quick-drying top (nylon or polyester rash guards, capilene, fleece, polypropylene, or other synthetics are best. Cotton t-shirts are suitable for warm conditions)
  • windbreaker (optional for cool conditions)
  • footwear: water shoes, booties, sport sandals, or old tennis shoes are best. Barefoot is ok too.
  • Please note that heavy cotton clothing like jeans and sweatshirts are not permitted.

Your guides are dedicated to making your trip fun and enjoyable. You have a right to expect excellent service at no additional charge, but if your guide made your experience particularly enjoyable, gratuities are always appreciated.
